I spent time in France this summer and became enthralled by the foods I ate. The veggies and fruit were incredibly fresh and the baguettes were brought home daily. I know the value of eating fresh food, but that knowledge does not translate to American living easily. I mean; the availability of fast food is so abundant that I actually ate out every day for a week when I returned home. There went my resolve to eat fresh in America just as I had in France. I couldn’t believe the rate at which I succumbed to fast food, because the goal was literally broken 1/2 an hour after landing in LA. Strike that, it ended when I had my layover in DC and Crit brought me Thai noodles and we ate cheese blintzes the next morning. I had lost all hope of being a natural cook in the French manner until I went to the movies last night. I saw Julie & Julia and was inspired to be a French cook. I like that Julia Childs was an energetic cook who was competitive in the kitchen (according to the movie). I believe that I will get her book and start to slowly cook a few entrees that will leisurely appear on the blog. First, I think I’ll ask my mom if she has the book so I can just “inherit” it early from her. Due to my lack of owning the book, as well as the continued presence of Peanut Butter (a generous gift from our next door neighbor) in apt#6 I made Irresistible Peanut Butter cookies this afternoon. I made them because I was craving something sweet. I also made them for Liz to snack on during her long flight to Australia tonight. Double also, she is taking a few in a plastic baggie to Cousin Chris in Australia.
I followed this recipe for the cookies:
